The audio
I spent six months in the Atlanta area, and became pretty familiar with the city and the area neighborhoods and attractions. Although I don’t live in Atlanta full time, I have a good idea of the locations, streets, and highways mentioned on the shows. Whether or not you are familiar with Atlanta, it is interesting to listen to the show talk about concerts and events and appearances around the city.
I tune into 99X in the mornings, and listen while I get ready for work. If something interesting is going on, I’ll start recording the show, and will usually let it keep recording after I leave for work. I am on a dial-up connection, and it automatically disconnects after four hours.
Although it is a 56K connection, it can sometimes be flakey. As a result, the audio periodically pop in and out. In most of 2004’s recordings, the audio is fine. Some of them do skip, though, and I have marked most of those in the download lists. Some days are worse than others, and when that happens, despite what’s going on, I don’t record. The line even disconnects sometimes if the computer thinks there’s a poor connection. 99X’s bandwidth went to 32K in the spring, and since then, the bandwidth problem has gotten worse. I have not been able to record as much as I wanted due to this problem, so know that what I do record is often pure gold. They cleaned up their stream later in 2005 and the audio didn't have dropouts anymore.
This audio is not just for fans of Toucher, Jimmy, and Leslie. These are excellent examples of good radio for broadcasting students and even other radio station morning shows. This is a show that works, and is consistently funny and engaging.
Most of the mp3s are straight-through recordings, that is no edits. However, some recordings have been edited slightly, either to remove commercials, sports/traffic/weather segments, songs, or to cut out excessive skipping. NOTE: I never edit out content. When they say anything controversial, it just makes the show more enjoyable.
Download everything you want and enjoy. You can even play them in your iPod, as I will do sometimes. After the show ended March 17, 2006, I will likely not upload any new audio from the new Axel, Jimmy, and Leslie show.
