The Story

The script was written as an introduction to a fictional series called “The Adventures of the Galactic Star Force Power Squad!” This was mostly a vehicle for me to create a humorous sci-fi production that tested the limits of what I could do in the production studio. Given more time and more resources I could have created something on a grander scale.

Here’s the story: Star Force pilots (the “Power Squad”) Lee Stormwalker, Brett Nabors and their trusty automaton Harry are flying around the Earth’s orbit in their star cruiser, picking up “space debris.” They comment that they wish they could fight in “the battle against the Rebel Empire.” Just then they get an emergency call from Captain Oberling of Star Force Command who calls them back to his office at Command Center headquarters. They fly in to HQ and first have lunch in the space center cafeteria, where they gawk at a “blonde chick” and eat fettuccini served by Harry, and afterwards visit the wet bar. They soon meet with Captain Oberling who tells them that he has reinstated their drafts and they are going to fight in the War. Their orders are to head out to Star Force Headquarters in Sector 7G where they will join in the attack force against the Rebel Empire. And one other thing, they have to take Oberling’s daughter Lisa along with them, a bubble-headed blonde—the same one they saw in the cafeteria—who is a nurse in the Star Force Medical Corp. They fly over to Sector 7G, with Lisa irritating all three along the way.

Once at the base, they get new uniforms and attend a briefing about the mission details given by Commander Langstrom. Since they’re late, they sit in the back and chat while the briefing is going on behind them. During the meeting they get up and leave to trade in their uniforms which are too big, and see if they can hit the wet bar. We next find them in the cockpit of their new spaceship, pushing buttons and preparing the ship. After liftoff, Lisa appears and tells them that she stowed away in the ship so she can fight too. Her voice and demeanor are different now, very serious, as the “bimbo talk” was just an act to keep horny guys away. They quickly join in the fight, and we hear a thirty-second space battle complete with exciting music and sound effects. Their ship gets hit and they drop out of the battle. Right then, Lisa is suddenly “beamed out” (transporter effects from the Star Trek record), as the Rebel Empire ship flies by. A deep voice comes out over the radio: it’s Barth Hornet, the most evil guy in the universe, who has just kidnapped Lisa. He warns them to stay away, but Lee declares it’s time for “a high speed space chase” and tries to fire up the engines. There’s a crackle and boom—the ship’s navigational system has been damaged. Brett orders Harry (who can plug into the computer) to fix the ship, but Harry refuses saying that he’s “busy.” Another “boom,” and more clattering as the ship takes on more damage. Sound effects fade out and closing music fades in and the narrator gives the end credits.
